August 2012 Takeaway Activism included an effort to let ABC’s advertisers know that the Tea Party did not appreciate the smear delivered by news director Brian Ross:

Below is a sample letter for your consideration/use to contact the various advertisers:

To Whom It May Concern,

On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred at a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. A gunman, dressed in tactical clothing, set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others, the highest number of casualties in an American mass shooting. The sole suspect is James Eagan Holmes, who was arrested outside the cinema minutes later.

On the morning after the shooting, ABC News Chief Brian Ross, a charter-member of the mainstream media — hell-bent on tearing down the newly revived Conservative Movement — along with George Stephanopoulos, Good Morning America Directors, GMA Producers, and other GMA staff colluded to smear the Tea Party.

Here is the exchange between ABC News chief investigator Brian Ross and host George Stephanopoulos about apparent suspect James Holmes:

  • Stephanolpoulos: I’m going to go to Brian Ross. You’ve been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.
  • Ross: There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.
  • Stephanolpoulos: Okay, we’ll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.

With no evidence, no investigation, no fact-checking, these ‘news people’ attempted to tie a psychotic murderer to a peaceful movement of American citizens and patriots.  Similar efforts were made by the mainstream media when Jared Loughner shot Gabby Giffords in Arizona and killed several others.

Why does this concern you?  Why am I writing?

Because your company is an advertiser on the Good Morning America program.  Your company supports their views and attempted smears with your advertising dollars.  Your funding allows  these ‘news people’ to attack a movement with which 48% of your customers agree.

Do you really want your company’s name on such attacks?  Do you really want to fund such attacks? Is this your company’s position on a movement to reign in spending and return to U.S. Constitutional principles?

We certainly hope not.

To that end, we request that you contact ABC and your advertising team to discuss methods by which your advertising dollars can be prevented from supporting hate-filled attacks by these ‘news people’ on peaceful American citizens.
